Hard water is very damaging
The facts are quite disturbing for homeowners – hard water damages heating systems.
If you live in a hard water area and fill a glass of water straight from the tap, you will be unable to see any chalk in the water. The water will instead appear clear and appetising.
However, as you the heat water up, the invisible chalk that is in the water will begin to change its physical structure, and will cling together, creating lumps and layers of scale.
Scale begins to form typically at the rate of 1mm per year in a hard water area, and according to HM Government statistics, just 1/4” of scale (or 5mm), will need an additional 55% more energy to heat the water on the other side of the scale.
